DESIGN FEATURES
Kährs continuously develops innovative ways to bring new designs to our wood floors, increasing possibilities for personal choices. The look and feel of the wood is enhanced through a variety of refining techniques, including brushing, scraping and smoking.
BRUSHING
Brushing the surface highlights the natural structure of the grain and emphasizes the texture of the wood. Brushing effects vary, depending on the wood species. Brushes are made from different materials in varying degrees of hardness, and brushing is often carried out along with other refining treatments, such as staining and bevelling of edges.
STAINING
Staining offers opportunities to enhances the wood's natural colour tones. It also allows us to apply new colours, thus completely transforming the appearance of the wood. Kährs offers a wide range of stained options – from the palest white to rich charcoal shades.
BEVELLED EDGES
Kährs offers a number of floors with a bevelled edge finish in varying degrees, from “microbevelling” – tiny clarification and reinforcement of the edges created using sandpaper – to more prominent bevelling on both the long and the short sides, for a rustic, robust appearance. A bevelled edge feature on a 1-strip floor gives the floor a very distinct look.
HANDSCRAPING
By using different tools for manual wood scraping and sanding, a new wood floor can be given a worn appearance. It takes a great amount of manual work to achieve a rustic character.
SMOKING
The smoking process alters the colour and shade of the plank. There are two grades of smoked finish: light and the darker fully smoked.
SAW MARKS
This involves the same process as handscraping. However, the surface marks are created to resemble those made by a chainsaw.
