Kährs has been environmentally and quality certifying its operations since the 1990's. Many of Kahrs' products contribute to LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) points on construction projects. For both our parquet and vinyl flooring, Kährs fulfils all requirements for modern flooring aesthetics as well as environmental and quality standards.
We also follow the industrial standard of the Swedish Flooring Trade Association (GBR) for environmental declarations, so that we can provide environmentally relevant information on our products. Kährs meets European E1, Eo and California Air Resources Board – Airborne Toxic Control Measure (CARB-ATCM) Phase 1 and 2 standards.
ISO 14001 is the international environmental management system, while ISO 9001 is the international quality control system. Below are the quality and environmental accreditations relating to Kährs plant in Nybro.
In 1993, we were the first wood floor manufacturer to obtain ISO 9001 certification, and in 1997 we also achieved ISO 14001 certification.
The system covers the following scope: Floor coverings products, development and technologies process, manufacturing process, support activities/processes to former processes.

Environmental Product Declaration - EPD
An EPD describes building materials, construction products, or building components in terms of their environmental impact, as well as on their functional and technical characteristics. With an EPD, manufacturers can report comparable, objective and third-party verified data that show every aspect of the environmental performance of a product over its total lifetime. This information can be used by property developers and planners to calculate a building’s total environmental and climate impact over its lifecycle.

FloorScore® is a certification program established by the Resilient Floor Covering Institute (RFCI) for hard surface flooring and flooring adhesives products that meet strict indoor air quality (IAQ) requirements. Products bearing the FloorScore label meet the indoor air quality emissions criteria of LEED, CHPS, the Green Guide for Health Care, and are recognized by a long list of healthy building programs.
To be granted FloorScore® certification a product must pass demanding emissions tests to ensure that the product does not release any compounds that are detrimental to the quality of indoor air. Regular factory audits are also required.
The Nordic Swan
Nordic Swan Ecolabel, the official ecolabel of the Nordic countries, is a Type 1 ecolabel (ISO 14024) which includes the world's most credible and tough environmental labels to be granted. The criteria is built upon a life cycle assessment perspective – from raw material to end of life – and only the environmentally best products receive the Nordic Swan Ecolabel.
Today we have more than 180 wood floors certified in accordance with the Nordic Swan Ecolabel, which is in line with Kährs’ sustainability program.
Our floor coverings are classified as M1, the best class of construction materials in terms of emissions. The Finnish emissions classification of construction materials promotes the development and use of low-emissions construction materials. To guarantee the quality of indoor air, emissions must be considered in all phases of design, manufacturing and usage. The construction material classification is granted by the Building Information Foundation RTS (Finland).
A French certification that tests and guarantees that products which are installed indoors, including floors, must meet emissions requirements for a safe indoor environment. All our vinyl floors fulfil requirements for French A+.
